Judith A. Mulligan was born on this date in 1938 to Margaret Ernestine Riley (1910-1989) and Walter Francis Xavier Mulligan (1906-1957). Judy, born in Pawtucket, lived in the area all of her life. She was the first born of the four Mulligan children, with her siblings being: Martha, Paula and Kevin Francis Xavier.
In her early twenties, Judy married David T. Moore and had two children, Susan Moore and Kathryn Moore McBride. Here is Judy’s wedding announcement photo from the Providence Journal:
Judy passed away on November 13, 1962 at the age of 24.
Today is the Happy Birthday for Katherine “Kate” Agnes Riley. Kate, who is the daughter of Joan Burggraf Riley and Stephen Francis Riley, hit the 40 year old mark and is enjoying life to the fullest.
Just last weekend, the halls of Georgetown University were rockin’ as Kate, her buddies and some family members gathered for her pre-birthday celebration. Below are two photos from the “Kate Bash”:
Paula Mulligan Kostycz, daughter of Margaret Ernestine Riley (1910-1989) and Walter Francis Xavier Mulligan (1906-1957), has a birthday today. Paula is living in southwest Florida, where today’s expected temperature will be about 73 degrees and the skies partly sunny. I’d say that’s just about perfect birthday weather.
Paula is the third born of the four Mulligan siblings. Her sisters are Judy (1938-1962), and Martha, and she has one brother, Kevin. Then, there was that man from Chicago, John Kostycz, who sadly passed away last July. Paula and John had been married for over 50 years.

It is Kevin Francis Xavier Mulligan’s birthday today. Son of the late Margaret Ernestine Riley (1910-1989) and the late Walter Francis Xavier Mulligan (1906-1957), he is the youngest of the four Mulligan siblings and the only male.
As always, if you are over a “certain” age, the number of the birthday is not published. What we can state is Kevin is very happy to be called “Gramps” by two little fellas.
Today we celebrateKathryn (Kathy) MooreMcBride’s birthday. Born to the late Judith (Judy) A. Mulligan (1938-1962) and David Moore, Kathy is the younger sister to Susan who celebrates her birthday in June.
Saw Kathy and her husband Robert McBride about a month ago and the lovely couple are doing fine. Just three weeks ago we acknowledged the birthday of their son Jordan, who is in his junior year at Providence College.

Jordan, great grandson of Margaret Riley Mulligan (1910-1989) and grandson of Judy Mulligan Moore (1938-1962) had a birthday this week on Wednesday the 22nd.

John Kostycz, beloved husband of Paula Mulligan, passed away at home in Porta Gorda, Florida on July 27, 2021. Born in Chicago back in 1945 to John Stephen Kostycz, Sr.(1908-1976) and Florence Kazmlerski (1917-2001), John was a high school teacher in the Chicago Public School System. After his retirement, John and Paula headed for Florida settling in Fort Myers. Frequent travelers, they really covered the world in their adventures. One of their best trips was a 40 plus day cruise circumventing Australia.

John’s funeral service is scheduled for September 11, 2021 at the former St. Joseph’s Church, now called Holy Family Parish, 195 Walcott Street in Pawtucket – the church where they were married 51 years ago. I will post further information as soon as I receive it.
Theodore Francis Murzycki, oldest son of Elizabeth Mulligan and Nicholas Murzycki was born on this day in Worcester, MA. His maternal grandparents are Gail (Benoit) Mulligan and Kevin Francis Xavier Mulligan. Teddy shares the same birthday as his cousin Susan Moore (see today’s earlier post), and both are blessed with those great Mulligan genes inherited from the late Margaret Ernestine Riley (1910-1989) and the late Walter Frances Xavier Mulligan (1906-1957).
Teddy had quite a week leading up to today’s birthday. The word is out that Teddy has himself a brand new big-boy bed courtesy of Mom and Dad and Grandma Gail and Grandpa Kevin. At the end of the week, Teddy and brother Ben, spent a great day at the Mystic Aquarium getting to know all the inhabitants. I heard the beluga whales were especially happy to see Teddy and his brother.

Susan Marie Moore ,daughter of the late Judith A. Mulligan (1938-1962) and David Moore, has a birthday today. Susan’s grandmother was the late Margaret Ernestine Riley (1910-1989) and her grandfather was the late Walter Frances Xavier Mulligan (1906-1957).
After a career as a special education teacher and administrator, Susan is now a real estate agent in South County, Rhode Island with Coldwell Banker Coastal Homes.
With a personal mantra of always being engaged in her surroundings and community, Susan is involved with and has volunteered her time with the Rhode Island Special Olympics, dog adoption programs and pet assisted therapy programs. Susan even has one of the cutest dogs around…aptly named, “Riley.”

Paula Mulligan Kostycz celebrates her birthday today down in southwest Florida, where the temperature will be about 72 degrees and the skies partly sunny. That is quite a contrast from the day Paula was born in the Pawtucket. According to the Pawtucket Evening Times, Paula arrived on a day with the temperatures ranging from 16 to 22 degrees and the skies were mostly cloudy. Although it was in the middle of winter, I bet that little girl’s late parents, Margaret Ernestine Riley (1910-1989) and Walter Francis Xavier Mulligan (1906-1957), were all a-glow with warm and sunny thoughts for the years ahead for their little Paula.

Kevin Francis Xavier Mulligan has himself a birthday today. Son of the late Margaret Ernestine Riley (1910-1989) and the late Walter Francis Xavier Mulligan (1906-1957), he is the youngest of the four Mulligan siblings and the only male.
Someone once said to me, “If you’re from Pawtucket, then you know Kevin.” To be well-known and well-liked is a nice label to have, and KFXM certainly carries that tag well. A high school athlete, a fireman, a teacher, a coach and later a high school and college track official, Kevin has himself quite a CV. Now-a-days his duties revolve around his two grandsons, Teddy and Ben, and some travel with his much better half, Gail.
Oh yeah…Kev likes to do some cooking
Yup, Kevin is the type of guy who still chums around with his boyhood friends. He looks a lot like his handsome father – the original Francis Xavier.

On this day in Pawtucket, back in 1910, Margaret E. (Riley) Mulligan* was born to the late Marguetta E. Greenhalgh (07/27/1876) and the late Patrick Leo Riley (06/07/1875). Margaret’s first year or two of life were spent with the family at 237 Middle Street, in the old Sacred Heart Parish section of Pawtucket. She then lived most of her life within 3 miles of where she was born, which was the norm back in early years of the 20th Century. During her twenties, Margaret worked at the “phone company,” then know as New England Telephone and Telegraph – a good job back then. Some years later, one of her daughters had a nice career within the phone industry.
Margaret married Walter Frances Xavier Mulligan (1906-1957) on September 6, 1937. It is their wedding reception photo that is featured across the header of this 19pondstreet website. Here is their engagement photo:

Everyone loved “Aunt Margaret.” Just the thought of her brings a smile to those who knew her. I can tell you that she was very kind and welcoming to my mother (Margaret F Bartley 1911-1978), when she married into the Riley clan.
Margaret and Walter had three daughters: Judith, Martha, Paula and one son, Kevin. Unfortunately, Walter passed away on February 4, 1957 at the age of 51. Margaret passed at the age of 78 on September 2, 1989.
In Providence on this day, the Mulligan twins were born to Gail and Kevin. Can’t remember if it was Caitlin then Elizabeth or Elizabeth then Caitlin who was first born, but I bet it mattered to each as they grew up.

All of that is behind them now. Liz, is the Controller at The Sage School in Foxboro, MA. She and her husband Nick Murzycki are raising their two boys, Teddy and Ben. For a while now, Caitlin has been an attorney at Ropes and Gray in Boston, which happens to be one the nation’s most prestigious law firms. Whether it be for work or for pleasure, Caitlin enjoys traveling the world. So, you never know where Caitlin will pop-up next.

Today would have been Helen Manning Riley’s 99th birthday. Helen was born on this day in 1921 and passed on June 25, 1994. Married to William Leo Riley on September 6, 1952, the couple had three children, Patricia, William and Paul.

It was on this day in 1962 that Judith Mulligan Moore passed away. Judy was the oldest daughter of Walter and Margaret (Riley) Mulligan. She died at the age of 24 years, leaving her husband David and two daughters; 17 months old Susan and 1 month old Kathryn.
